S2|DATA has heard it all from our customers when it comes to why they have backup tapes, but don’t know what’s on them.  Sometimes the backup software is no longer available, sometimes the IT Staff that created the backups are no longer around and no one knows the login password, and sometimes the backup server dies and someone forgot to create a backup of the backup software.  Whatever the reason, S2|DATA can fill in the details for you.

Cataloging options include:

• Backup header reporting: a report detailing the backup software, tape initialization date, and any other information in the tape header* (differs by backup software)
• Backup session reporting: a list of the backup clients on the tape and the date/time they were backed up.
• Backup file list reporting: a list of all files on a backup tape, including details like name, path, size, extension, file dates, and an MD5 hash value.
• Re-creation of native backup software catalogs: recreates your native backup application’s catalog after loss.
